How we validate today
Each scored sortie compares VIN absolute position to a GNSS reference (Here4) over the cruise segment.
Primary metrics are locked-mode horizontal error (median, mean, max) and vision lock duty-cycle — the share of frames where VIN holds a usable lock.
Typical VIN update rate on these sorties is ~4.6–4.7 Hz. Sites in the current ledger are Ray Brickhouse Flying Field and Scobee Flying Field in Texas — both AMA community flying fields.

Locked-mode horizontal error vs GNSS reference. Lock % = vision_ok frame share.
What this does — and does not — prove
Does prove
- Onboard globally referenced position can be scored against a GNSS reference on real sorties.
- Locked-mode median error is repeatedly in the sub-meter to low-meter range across two AMA community flying fields.
- Lock duty-cycle and outlier spikes are measured openly — including sorties where lock is incomplete.
Does not claim yet
- Independent third-party witness results are not part of the present dataset; they will be reported in a dedicated section when complete.
- The portfolio strip (143 / 13 h / 137 km) is an aggregate ledger estimate; not every flight in that count has a published scored pack on this portal.
- GNSS-denied (receiver removed) campaigns are a distinct class of test and are not claimed for the entire ledger on this page.
Next
- Continue publishing scored sorties in the Flight Log as the ledger grows.
- Publish independent third-party campaigns — method, site, witness, and results — when complete.
